†††††††††††††††††KYO† - JITSU

The japanese concept of† kyo-jitsu† has been used† in Shiatsu and other related japanese healing arts, just like the chinese concept of yin-yang that has been used in acupuncture, herbalism, etc. †It should be noted, that although both concepts do denote/ characterize the states/ imbalances of KI, (and not only that) there† are however, distinct† differences among† them.

Therefore in order to avoid confusion, one cannot use Shiatsu to treat according to yin-yang diagnosis, as much as one cannot use acupuncture to treat according to kyo-jitsu diagnosis. For instance, if a† person is diagnosed as "Kidney-Yin deficient", it is not necessary (although possible) for that person to be "Kidney-Kyo" too.

Kyo definition is used to describe states of weakness, emptiness,†† desire, fear, greediness, unsatisfaction, instability, etc.

Jitsu† definition† is used to describe states of strength, fullness, congestion, protection, support, satisfaction,† stability, etc.

The above do not imply that kyo is bad and jitsu is good. Basically, it should be cleared up, that kyo-jitsu is necessary for life to exist. They are simply the means by which we can exist. If we donít have the desire to do something, then we wonít be able to achieve anything. Itís just like the day and the night. None is bad and none is good. These too, are simply the means by which the earth exists.

In Shiatsu† when we talk about kyo-jitsu, we literally† mean about the stagnation of KI in kyo-jitsu movement. We are interested where in the body does the KI remain stuck in a kyo-state and in a jitsu-state.

There is nothing wrong if the Ki exists in a kyo state or a jitsu one. After all, it is only by attaining either state that KI can provide human beings, with the means to exist.† The aim is to provide all the parts of the body with the flexibility to be either kyo or jitsu.

KI does circulate in the human body through a special network called the meridians. For the human body to exist, the meridians must be capable to attain either a kyo or a jitsu state. The same situation, does happen with the muscular system (and not only that) of the body.

Some muscle groups contract, while some others extend. Ideally, the various muscle groups should have the opportunity, alternately to either extend or contract and in no way to be limited/constricted in contraction only or in extension only.

The problems do exist when we have stagnation of kyo-jitsu movement in the meridians. In other words, the KI in some meridians remains blocked/freezed in a relatively†permanent kyo state, and in some other meridians in a jitsu state.

†† Simply the Role of SHIATSU, is nothing but to unblock this particular stagnation/freezing of KI in the meridians.

STAGNATION OF† KI HAPPENS, WHEN TENSION, OF ANY KIND, MANIFESTS IN THE BODY-MIND. This stagnation† does exist when WE ARE NOT GROUNDED/ROOTED. Being grounded† does allow us to experience all kinds of kyo-jitsu situations, and not to be stuck in specific ones only.

Hence the object of grounding is to enable us with change of KI in kyo-jitsu movement, i.e. we can be able to change psycho-somatically .

People do exist according to kyo-jitsu principles. They are being driven according to their desire/need/pain(kyo),† for example, by wanting more money, more knowledge, more experience, etc. There is nothing wrong in desiring anything. However problems/stagnation of KI, arise when we are stuck in a particular desire all the time. On the other hand, fulfilling that desire, this automatically sets us free to make another step.

In order to be able to make a particular move they depend on the support/ strength/protection(jitsu) for†example, someone who borrows a specific capital (jitsu-support) to create/expand his/her business in order to make more money. If that person is able to make some money, and of course starts to pay off the debt, then that person can proceed to the next step. If on the other hand, is not able to comply with his/her obligations, then stagnation sets in.

Also, if we are always/only stuck in making money, then another serious stagnation sets in, simply, because we are not able to fulfill. Itís the same thing when people are having sex, and are not able to reach an orgasm. Simply, they will never be satisfied.

So the issue, is not always on how much you have. Itís rather how you are enjoying/taking advantage(not exploiting) of what you have. Every person is willing for happiness, but how many people are ready to realize, whether they are greedy in some issues or not. In effect, happiness does remain a fairy-tale.† PEOPLE, SIMPLY BECOME VICTIMS OF THEIR OWN GREEDINESS.

Another example of further stagnation is when we expect from others to fulfill our desires and/or furthermore when we interfere into others' desires. There are many other factors that contribute to Kyo-Jitsu stagnation. It is almost impossible to describe all of them.

However, in order to become more specific again, we will describe the Importance of Timing at Every Present Moment.

Actually we are referring, whether the attention is existing at every present moment. By that we mean, whether the attention is synchronized with the actions that someone is performing Now at every present moment. If the attention is not synchronized at every present moment, this alone does create stagnation in Kyo-Jitsu movement.

So, if our attention is not existing with everything that we are doing, Now at Each Second at Every Present Moment, and instead, our attention is thinking what we have done even one second ago, or what we might do, one second later, then automatically we create stagnation.

†† For a human organism, the importance of living at every present moment, is as critical as it is the timing even for minute fractions of a second for a car engine. If the timing of an internal combustion engine is not correct, the engine will not run. So our "timing" if you like, is simply by existing continuously with our attention on what we are doing Now at Each Second at Every Present Moment.

Imagine how much stagnation is created to people that most of the time, live with their attention in the past, for example, one second ago, an hour ago, a week ago, three months ago, two or even twenty years ago and so on. The same thing also happens to people that most of the time, live with their attention in the future, for example, one second later, two hours later, four months later, three or even fifty years later and so on.

Of course there is no problem, if our attention exists for a while either in the past or in the future. However real problems do arise, if we remain attached/obsessed somewhere in the past or in the future. Simply put, our physical body exists now in the present moment but our mind/ attention is somewhere else. As a result our physical body is trying to follow our mind/attention anywhere apart from the present moment.

Moreover, because in these situations† the usual questions that might exist in the mind, i.e. why one situation had or had not happened, or when that particular thing is going to come etc, will slowly-slowly create various obsessions. In the long run these tendencies/obsessions/ attachments do create a serious disconnection in the normal/smooth flow of KI in the Body-Mind. Indeed these situations are the precursors to many so-called unexplainable acquired disorders such as allergies, autoimmune diseases, organ diseases, cancer, some forms of stroke, etc.

So most people do exist with particular relative strengths (permanent jitsu) and relative weaknesses(permanent kyo). Some meridians appear to be relatively kyo only, and others to be relatively jitsu only.

Irrespectively, if the aim of SHIATSU is to create a connection in the Body-Mind, by helping the Kyo-Jitsu movement of KI to happen naturally/smoothly, it must be clarified that SHIATSU is in no way imposing healing to take place. If† the receiverís Body-Mind is not ready/willing to accept the therapy, healing will naturally not happen.
