  b)   PREVENTION:

         SHIATSU can prevent many disorders even before these take the time to manifest. Especially if someone has got a tendency to have an operation of a particular organ in the future, with SHIATSU there can be  a restoration of  the function of that organ. Although this is not a 100% absolute rule, there are many cases that can be saved without having to do the operation.

        In  general  SHIATSU  helps   to:

            The  most  important  purpose  of  SHIATSU  is  that  of  maintaining human health. Health is not a fixed state. On the contrary, it is a never ending process.The more one moves towards it the more benefits is likely to get. It is also a self-ability that allows progressive flexibility to occur both in the mind and the body.

          CHANGE is the way of nature, whereby things always change. Seasons change, a day is followed by a night and so on. NOTHING EXISTS IN ABSOLUTE  STILLNESS. HUMAN  BEINGS  CHANGE TOO. Either   for   the    worse  or  for   the  better. So  the object  of SHIATSU is  to  have  our  inner-changing  factor  moving  in  a positive  direction.

          Allowing change and flexibility to occur in ourselves, we are provided with an ever-changing sense of physical and emotional balance. We will give an example in order to have a clearer picture on what is happening inside the body of every human being.

          Any person from the time of conception is developing a particular constitution, in all human spheres/dimensions. By growing older that constitution begins to become more stereotyped. More specifically in certain emotional spheres  we feel strong whereas in others we feel weak. In the same way  in our bodily functions some organs do work or get stressed more and others do less.

           The same thing  also happens with the muscular system whereby we tend to use some muscle groups more than others. As a result we end up to build hard-strong and soft-weak different muscle groups. Even if we split the body vertically into two halves the right side might be stronger than the left or vice versa.

         In effect various problems might arise in certain times of our lives. These could range from non-serious to very serious or even fatal ones.The range of patterns/constitution that we do get stuck in, denotes the severity of the problems. In other words, it is like having a particular season going on  all the time.

          The role of  SHIATSU is to help nature do its work. We do not treat a particular symptom only. The object is to help the whole organism to function smoothly. This can only be achieved  by allowing flexibility and change to occur  both physically and emotionally.

          Simply, the balanced state that SHIATSU brings to the body is not one that all organs are made to function at all times with the same rhythm. It is rather a state where some organs will at some times come to function more and  at  other  periods  less.


     For example, the organs need to have the ability to work stronger or smoother  whenever
that is required from the organism. So this  "high-low" function of the  organs is encouraged to be ever-changing in the body.

         The same occurs for the muscular system. In order to have a movement towards one direction, one muscle group must contract and some other one extend. In a balanced body the range of movement done in one direction must be the same if the movement is done in the opposite direction too, e.g. if we twist our bodies with a maximum of 60 degrees both left and right then we have balance. However if we are able to reach 70 degrees to the left and  50  degrees to the right, certainly we do not have any balance.

         We need to have an equal rhythm of going left to right, up and down, back and forth. Emotionally  we need to be experiencing  equally  all  kinds  of  emotions, like  sadness, fear, joy, anger, etc . What we  don't need  to have, is to be stuck in  one  emotion  all the time, while  not  being  able to  experience  another.

        Change is neccessary for life to exist.The whole world consists of opposing forces/qualities. If we want to walk, one foot must bear the weight first and the other must be empty to proceed.The reason that people don't know what balance is supposed to mean, is because they haven't got paid any attention to their bodies. Only those that had paid attention, had realised that something is not in order.

       Therefore the priority of SHIATSU therapy is to have ORDER established. Treating disorders is secondary. Imagine the cost of pain, time, and money that  is needed to have a particular operation. On the other hand, think  how enjoyfull it is to be healthy and definitely much less money and certainly no pain.

        If you have a car, no-matter, be it a new or an old one, and you want to have it running well, then you would care to have it serviced from time to time. However, if you honestly consider your body to be more important than the car, then you will take serious steps to have it protected.
